• SHUTTER FAQ •
Depending on the look that you are seeking, you may measure for the look of working shutters or for the full length of the window or door.
Length:
For the appearance of a working shutter, measure the length of each window (excluding the frame) and order the shutter in that length. Otherwise, the other preference is for it to cover the entire length of the window or door, so you would include the frame in your measurement.
Width:
The width of your shutter depends on (1) the available space around your windows and (2) the appearance. Make sure to watch for any obstructions that may get in the way of your shutters. For the look of functioning shutters, the width of your shutter should be half the width of your window. Otherwise, the following is a standard recommendation for choosing your shutter width.

From the mounting surface to the top of the shutter, is about ¾”.
YES! All of East Iowa Plastic’s shutters can be painted. If you are planning to paint them anyway, be sure to check out our Paintable Shutters category – it will save you some money!
Your shutters may be painted with a good quality exterior acrylic paint. DO NOT use any type of vinyl-based paint. No priming is necessary. Shutter must be clean and free of contaminants before painting. Test a small section for adhesion before completely painting.
Normally we try to stock the common sizes. If your order is not in stock, it would normally take no more than 2 weeks.
You can simply spray with medium water pressure from a garden hose to quickly renew the attractive wood grain appearance and original luster of the shutters. Dirt and leaves can be easily removed with a sponge or light brushing. DO NOT USE CLEANING FLUIDS OR ABRASIVES.
East Iowa Plastics, Inc. provides the industry’s only lifetime warranty on fading, warping, breaking, cracking, denting or splitting. Simply return defective shutters to place of purchase with proof of purchase. (Note: the paintable shutters are excluded from the Lifetime Warranty.)
East Iowa Plastics, Inc. will not be held liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages. The manufacturer assumes no responsibility for failure or damage due to improper installation. Our liability will not exceed the replacement of the defective shutter itself. Installation costs will not be included.
All that is needed for installation is a medium sized Phillips Screwdriver, a drill with a 3/16 inch bit, safety glasses and the color coordinated screws (provided with the shutters).
Yes, when mounting on brick, stone or masonry products, locate screw holes so they enter mortar joints. Drill holes to accept suitable masonry anchor (purchased separately at your local hardware store) and attach shutter with the screws provided.

East Iowa Plastics shutters come with complete color-coordinated hardware packets. Screws are 2" zinc plated steel with color matched Phillips heads.
Number of screws needed for various shutter sizes:
Shutter length 24 inch - 51 inch: Use 4 screws per shutter (2 per side)
Shutter length 55 inch - 80 inch: Use 6 screws per shutter (3 per side)
Brick, Stone or Masonry:
When mounting on brick, stone or other masonry products, locate screw holes so they enter mortar joints. Drill holes to accept a suitable masonry anchor (purchased separately) and attach shutter with screws provided.

ALL injection molded shutters are made from polypropylene (except for paintable, which are made of High Impact Polystyrene, HIPS).
ALL polypropylene shutters will fade gradually or quickly, depending on amount of costly additives…(be extremely cautious of "low cost" shutters).
"I've seen other shutters made of a heavier plastic and are cheaper???"
You can buy shutters at the large home centers that are made of heavier plastics. They can be cheaper in cost because they are made of cheaper materials. They are usually made of polypropylene. The cheaper shutters are not laminated and have to build in extra bulk in order to provide structural integrity. Please read their warranty. They most often specifically say that they WILL NOT guarantee their shutters against fading or warping.
Note: You may have to open the shutter package to find the disclaimer on fading and warping.
Because our shutters are constructed of two superior grades of plastic, WeatherBest™ Shutters do not need extra plastic to "bulk them up" in order to make them durable. Our shutters weigh less but will last longer than the heavier alternatives. Heavier does not necessarily mean better!

• CREATING QUALITY THROUGH TECHNOLOGY •
These pictures show our unique process that allows us to apply a highly specialized fade proof “barrier” of Korad Acrylic sheet.
This barrier is the exclusive key to making a shutter that is fade proof and age proof. Korad capped WeatherBest shutters will far exceed the life of your vinyl siding.
Unlike injection molding, our manufacturing process is a two-stage process. Making the highly specialized sheet in the first stage, and forming the shutter is the second stage.
It is only through this two-stage process that a special barrier layer can be applied. It cannot be done with an injection molding process for making shutters.
East Iowa Plastics is the only shutter manufacturer who uses fade proof Korad Acrylic, which allows us to offer the only fade proof shutter on the market.
Our fade proof and age proof shutters have been proven by over 40 years of continuous production….and we can still match new shutters with those that were made 40 years ago!
